The Battle of Hastings 1066, this is the
battle that made Norman invaders the
masters of England. WILLIAM_THE_CONQUEROR
sailed with 7000 Norman troops and some war
horses from France to England in 450 open
boats. Meanwhile the English (anglo saxons)
under King Harold were defeating Norse
invaders in Northern England.
King Harold marched south, and fought William
at Senlac, near Hastings. The Anglo Saxons
defended a hilltop with axes, spears, swords
and shields. The Normans attacked with
arrows, lances, spiked clubs and swords.
The battle lasted for one day. The Normans
then pretended to run away. A small number of
Anglo Saxons followed, then the Normans
showered arrows on the them and the rest and
attacked once more. By evening, King Harold
was dead and his army had been beaten.
By the year 1071, William The Conqueror had
subdued all of England. Since then, no
foreign army has landed and won a battle on
English soil.
